Canna 'Alphonse Bouvier'

A tall Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, branching habit; flowers are self-coloured crimson, throat yellow, outstanding bloomer; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is average.

Introduced by A. Crozy, Lyon, France in 1891. Received the RHS Award of Merit in 1892, when it was submitted by Messrs G. Paul. Although 2009 has been the worst year for Canna that we have ever experienced, through it all this one shone like a true star.

  1. Good evening. We are searching for cannas created by A. Crozy in the area of Lyons. Most of them had actually desapeared in France. We would like to create a collection in the original area of this plants. Our compagny is called "Centre de ressources de Botanique Appliquée" and we are working with sevrals institutions in the area of Lyons. I already located sevral cannas from Crozy on your web site. It's a big work from you. I am realy impressed. Could you help us to know where to find (to buy ?) this varieties ans to have them in France ? Thank you for your understanding. Stéphane CROZAT

  2. Hello Stéphane, the biggest problem is locating Cannas that are virus-free. Canna virus has destroyed at least one major Canna collection and unless you are very careful it will destroy what you are attempting to achieve.

We do sell-on our surplus rhizomes, and virus-free stock can also be obtained from Hart Canna and Reedy Meadow Nursery. Both have web sites and we links to them.
