No Cannas for sale, 1980's

Burgess Seed and Plant Co, of Illinois, one of America's largest mail order nurseries published its catalogue for 1983. The declining popularity of the Canna genus can be measured by the fact that it contained only one Canna, the redoubtable Canna 'President'.

The popularity of Cannas can be accurately measured by the incidence of specimens offered for sale in nurserymens catalogues. The cost of preparing catalogues which have to be typeset and involve colour plates being produced, is expensive and only selling lines were included. At that time, Cannas were being kept alive by a few specialist nurseries and enthusiasts.
